Program Reinsurance Manager (Team Lead)

Summary

MS Transverse is looking for a dynamic and engaging Reinsurance Program Reinsurance Manager (Team Lead) who is looking for an opportunity to join an industry-leading Property and Casualty insurance carrier focused on partnering with Reinsurers, MGAs/Program Administrators, and Insurtechs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strong leadership and guidance to team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Set clear expectations, delegate tasks effectively, and empower team members to take ownership of their work.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the team, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and in accordance with established procedures and quality standards. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve targets.
  • Ensure effective communications within the team and the Reinsurance unit to achieve the company’s goals & objectives.
  • Personally handle the largest, most complex accounts with support from other team members as deemed necessary.
  • Provide support, as needed, to the team on all matters related to reinsurance placements.
  • Assure the team communicates & collaborates with the Business Development, Underwriting, Actuarial, Claims Operations and Finance departments for reinsurance questions and promptly responding to inquiries from clients, reinsurers and reinsurance brokers.
  • Recruit, train, and onboard new team members as needed. Conduct performance evaluations, provide regular feedback, and support the professional development of team members through coaching and mentorship.
  • Liaise with clients, brokers, reinsurance underwriters, and analytic support as needed for purposes of developing, implementing, and maintaining appropriate and financially sound reinsurance placements consistent with corporate directives.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of positive relationships with external parties, as needed and appropriately represent the Company to all clients and partners.
  • Coordinate audits performed by reinsurers: Claims and Underwriting.
  • Lead for reinsurer claims notifications on large/potential large losses requiring notifications, as well as assist in collection/handling queries related to such claims.
  • Ensure reinsurance documentation is finalized and stored properly, within the appropriate MST systems while also ensuring team members do the same.
  • Assess & coordinate reporting requirements of treaties with Reinsurance Operations & IT.
  • Assure team contribution to the DD documentation is thorough and complete.
  • Assist Finance in obtaining and maintaining Letters of Credit, Trust Agreements, and other types of financial instruments needed to satisfy credit requirements as necessary.
  • Follow all relevant (re)insurance industry developments to determine those developments which may have an impact on MST including market intelligence, competitor intelligence, pricing trends, T&C trends etc, and report these to the Reinsurance team and Head of Reinsurance.
  • Assist in other projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 10-15+ years of relevant experience in an insurance/reinsurance company in reinsurance placements, terms & conditions, including statutory and reinsurance accounting implications.
  • Above average knowledge of reinsurance including underwriting claims, accounting, finance and associated process, controls, and systems.
  • Experience in the structural design/implementation of reinsurance programs a plus.
  • Strong technical skills in Excel.
  • Organized, clear, and effective communication skills.
  • Analytical, decision making, problem resolution and organizational skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (finance, accounting, or risk management major preferred).
  • ARe/CPCU or advanced degree a plus.
